JAYWOOD SUN BABY
Montreal-based singer-songwriter JayWood has revealed his latest track, ‘SUN BABY’. Much of the track is defined by smooth, emotive balladry - JayWood’s voice is introspective and soft, backed by a subtle drum groove. At the centre of the track, however, is an explosion into distortion and noise; this brief moment of high-speed tension re-contextualises his return to tenderness in the song’s second half. He describes ‘SUN BABY’ as “an embrace of my vulnerability, and acceptance that I need it to connect with people, an audience, friends, lovers, mentors, idols, whoever. The ‘chow time” section represents my ego flaring up, trying to tear away at my softness only to be deflated by the end of the breakdown. I used to think that softness was a weakness, but I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself.” JayWood will be dropping more music later this year. -Dan Peeke
